Metro Buses to be Upgraded to Electric Vehicle Technology
McALLEN - McAllen's Metro buses will be getting a technological upgrade this year making it the first bus system in the country to do so.
Congressman Henry Cuellar announced the plans for the upgrade on Monday with the city receiving $1.9 million dollars to place on line electric vehicle technology on three buses that are currently running on diesel fuel. The technology will allow the old buses to run for another six years and will decrease energy consumption and fuel cost by 80%. The City of McAllen is one of four applicants to be selected in the State of Texas.
