DVD’s, cars and 3 men are in Alton Police custody after officials raided a video piracy operation.
Over 6,000 DVD’s, 60 burners, several computers and monitors and 2 SUV's are now in the hands of Alton Police after they bust this large video piracy operation. Officials raided a home on 20th Street and Oakland Avenue in McAllen after more than a month investigation. Assistant Chief Enrique Sotelo tells News Center 23, the police department has been working in conjunction with the Recording Industry Association of America to catch those selling illegal DVD’s.
The group of men is accused of duplicating thousands of movies like New Moon, District 9, Planet 51, Astro Boy and The Blind Side, some which are still showing in movie theaters around the nation. Investigators, armed with guns and rifles raided the home hoping to catch all those responsible before they headed out to local area flea markets.
“we've changed our tactics so we can focus more on where the product is taken out of as opposed to catch it when it's being sold.”
Officials arrested three young men, who will be charged with unlawful labeling, a federal offense.
