Memorial for Border protection officer

Customs and border protection officer Darrell Windhaus died December 9th from an apparent heart attack.

Today a large crowd gathered for his memorial.

A procession of CPB vehicles and a hearse carrying 71 year old officer were at the gateway international bridge.

Windhaus was honored by CBP for his year's of service.

He worked for the federal government for 42 years, including 13 years as a CBP officer.

A cameron County justice of the peace said Windhaus a[[arently had a heart attack after boarding a cargo ship in the port of Brownsville.
