Mele Convicted to Prison for the Death of Laura Garza
NEW YORK — Michael Mele was sentenced for 23 years in prison for the death of McAllen native Laura Garza on Tuesday.
Mele pleaded guilty to manslaughter and admitted to suffocating her and then dumping her body in a Pennsylvania field. Her remains were found a year later and investigators were able to identify her through DNA testing. Laura Garza had moved to Brooklyn, New York to pursue a career as a professional dancer.
