Medical school bill passes Texas House

The bill to form a new university and medical school passed the Texas House of Representatives on the third and final reading.

Senate Bill 24, authored by Senators Juan Hinojosa, Eddie Lucio, Jr. and Judith Zaffirine reached a compromise between Cameron and Hidalgo county leaders which clarifies the use of medical school resources in each county.

The new university will include the existing University of Texas System resources: UTPA, Harlingen Regional Academic Health Center and the RAHC's Medical Research Division in Edinburg and UTB.
