McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — McAllen is looking at splash parks a little differently in light of the drought affecting the Rio Grande Valley.
McAllen has a splash park in Palmview and one at North 29th Street and Zinnia Avenue. Palmview has a pond that irrigates water to the splash park.
A new splash park at the De Leon Sports Complex will also have a pond. Zinnia doesn't have one, but it's in the works.
"zinnia does not have that, so we will be looking at digging a pond over there, so the water from the splash pad will go into that pond, and we will use it to irrigate," said McAllen Parks and Recreation Director Sally Gavlik. "It is something that we would be able to dig in-house, with our crews, so once we have the final plans ready to go, we'll be able to start that."
The city will finish the project at De Leon before digging the Zinnia pond.
