McAllen police investigate shooting, one person dead

Police are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a man this afternoon.

McAllen police officers were called to the area of Jackson Avenue and Orangewood Drive at about 1 p.m. regarding shots fired.

Officials discovered the body of a man in an alleyway near a home on the 3800 block of South 'M' Street.

According to police, the victim was shot several times.

"This is currently under investigation," said Lt. Joel Morales with the McAllen Police Department.  "We're withholding the victim's name pending notification of next of kin.  Justice of the Peace Bobby Contreras has come to the scene and has ordered an autopsy.  We'll await those results."

Police say no one is in custody at this time.  Officials are working on getting a description of the suspect or suspects--there is no confirmation on exactly how many people are involved.
