The McAllen Police Department honored it's fallen officers with a ceremony on Wednesday morning.

Officers and local officials gathered in a memorial to remember former officers lost in the line of duty.

The event takes place every year as part of National Police Week and one McAllen officer, Ricardo Suarez, who lost his brother and fellow officer, stated, "For me when my brother got killed, it meant a lot. I tried to do his respect by not filling his shoes, but doing the best that I can, so that I can be proud of what he did."

The officers were recognized with a 21 gun salute and the department threw a barbeque afterwards.
