McAllen & Pharr awarded funds for hike and bike trails
AUSTIN, TX — Several upper Valley cities have been awarded funds to beautify area hiking and biking trails.
The Texas Transportation Commission awarded Transportation Enhancement Program funds for two local projects in McAllen and Pharr.
The program funds come from federal sources made available to the cities as a 80% reimbursement as the project is constructed.
The City of McAllen's award of $1,020,265 is for the Bentsen Road Hike and Bike Trail and plans include a project that would construct a mutli-use pedestrian and bicycle trail with amenities and landscaping, connecting residential neighborhoods, parks, schools and other points of interest along Bentsen Road from Pecan Boulevard (FM 495) to Nolana Avenue.
The City of Pharr's award of $644,138 is for the Bicycle Accessible Improvement Project and includes twenty two miles of bicycle lanes that promote safety and healthy lifestyles.
