McAllen I.S.D.to Receive Money to Promote Fitness to Students
It took a few years, but the McAllen I.S.D. is finally getting money to promote fitness. The school district is getting more than $700,000 dollars this year and up to $1.4 million over the next two years. The money will help their current programs plus a few new ones as P.E.Coordinator Mario Reyna states, "I guarantee you if we do more for kids and impose some preventative measures, that for sure we can impact the economy, because the bills that are out there because of kids with diabetes and other problems related with obesity are big." The school district knows the City of McAllen has been ranked one of the most obese areas in the country and they believe by changing the lifestyle of the children they can make a healthier city.
