When it comes preparing for the new school year it's not all about new clothes and supplies.
Officials say making sure your child has all of their vaccinations should also be a top priority.
The McAllen ISD along with the Hidalgo County Health and Human services spent the last few days doing just that.

McAllen ISD Nursing Administrator Adalia Del Bosque says the district is there for the children.
"This is an opportunity for them to come and vaccinate their child," she says, " This is an opportunity for them to take advantage of the vaccinations that are available to them."

The clinic was held at the David Crockett Administration Annex. It offered several vaccines for an affordable price.

Del Bosque adds, "We're providing this service at a cost of $5 for vaccine. Which is a phenomenal discount for the parents. We are excepting Medicaid and CHIP."

Every student is required by law to have a certain amount of vaccinations. What many parents may not know is that if their child doesn't meet the requirements they may not be able to enroll.

In order to protect every child, its mandatory for every student to have their vaccinations.
School officials say its all about prevention.

So far over 134 students have been vaccinated in McAllen. If your child has yet to meet the requirements another clinic is scheduled on August 22nd.
