McAllen Hotel Tax Rate to Fund New Performing Arts Center
McALLEN - The City of McAllen will move ahead with plans to build a new performing arts center after voters favored an increase in the hotel tax rate.
Citizens voted 564 to 451 on Tuesday evening in favor of the increase and hotels in the area will now be charging 2% more to it's guest. The city had begun looking for additional options this year to pay for a new performing arts center and determined that funding through the hotel tax rate would be sufficient. There is no word on the size or cost for the new center which is planned to be built next to the conventional center on Ware road.
