McAllen officials are trying to bring a bowl game back to the Valley.

The Palm Bowl left town back in 1985.  The McAllen city commission approved spending $3 million to improve McAllen Memorial Stadium.  Officials hope the planned improvements will help in the application process for the bowl game.

It may take 2-3 years for the bid to be accepted.

"We get a lot of people coming down from North Dakota, wherever those championship teams are from. Normally they're from up north, but hopefully a Texas team will get it eventually," said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling.  "So, it's good for tourism,  good for publicity, it's a good event for the community. We all love football down here, hopefully it's another venue, a different venue for our citizens."

The stadium improvements call for a better press box, compliance with disability access and a better field and scoreboard.
