A former McAllen Border Patrol Agent will spend 14 years in federal prison for accepting bribes and helping to get drugs across the border.
Salomon Ruiz plead guilty to the charges back in January and admitted then that for 11 months, when he served as a Border Patrol agent. He collected $14,000 dollars in bribes and helped get 25 kilograms of cocaine across the border by manipulating a sensor designed to detect the cocaine load.
In addition to 14 years in federal prison, Ruiz will also pay an $11,000 dollar fine and spend three years on supervised release. It's the same sentence his cousin faced for the same crime in Laredo.
