Officials Still Keeping An Eye On Area
It was business as usual this morning on Military Road and 23rd St in McAllen. However yesterday was a different scene.
A massive brush fire filled the sky with thick smoke and threatened several businesses. Windy conditions spread the blaze quickly and Firefighters from McAllen, Mission and Hidalgo fought the blaze for over eight hours.
Business owners were lucky even though some say it was a stressful night.
The brushy area behind these car lots tell a different story.
Cars and trees were burnt to a crisp, acres of land destroyed and the ground still sizzles among the rubble.
Fire officials say that flammable items such as tires made the job even more difficult...
Lt. Rene Alaniz tells us they're job isn't done. With the gusty winds, they want to make sure they keep an eye on the area.
Officials say they will continue to investigate this fire. They plan to interview several business owners and residents in the area to find out what exactly sparked the blaze. They will also continue to keep an eye on the weather.
