The manhunt is underway for the killer or killers of a District Attorney and his wife who were gunned down in their home on Saturday.

It's the second time, in two months, that someone from the DA's office has been murdered and investigators are wondering if the killings are connected, NBC's Chris Clackum has the latest.

Extra security was posted around the county courthouse in Kaufman, Texas on Monday as employees were escorted into work, armed officers, at their side and everywhere else. This after the weekend murders of local District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia.

The McLellands were found shot dead in their house Saturday in Forney, Texas. About 20 miles east of Dallas, his body riddled with bullets from a high powered rifle. Unnerving because the murders come two months after one of McLelland's Assistant DA's Mark Hasse was gunned down on his way to work at the courthouse which prompted this response from McLelland, "I hope that the did this are watching, because we're very confident that we're gonna find you."

Lawmen say they're open to all theories, but can't help but concentrate on the one that white supremacists may be behind both violent episodes because McLelland's office had vigorously prosecuted some racist gangs recently.

Texas Governor Rick Perry reacted by warning public officials to take extra precautions for their safety, "Listen, we live in times when people's safety, you look across the board at what happened in various and sundry places and I suggest everyone should be careful about what goes on. Whether they're public officials or otherwise."

Perry also says there is a clear concern to individuals who are in public life, particularly those who deal with some very mean and vicious individuals, whether they're white supremacy groups or drug cartels.
