A man is in critical condition after attempting to commit suicide and the gun discharging a second time and injuring his wife and daughter.

On Friday, November 29th at 6:45 p.m. Hidalgo County deputies were called to 1414 Pinot Drive, in rural Alamo, in reference to a man with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies found Reynaldo Escamilla, 24, lying on the living room floor with a single gunshot wound to the head and a 9mm semi-automatic beside him.

Escamilla's wife, Cristina Loredo, stated to deputies that her husband had been drinking all day and became intoxicated. Loredo also said that she and her 2 year-old daughter were sitting in the living room when Escamilla placed the weapon to the side of his head and fired it.

When he fell to the ground the impact discharged another round from the gun with fragments striking her and her child on their lower leg.

Mother and daughter were treated for their wounds at a local hospital and Escamilla is listed in critical condition at McAllen Medical Center.
