A Brownsville man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison after being found guilty of trying to smuggle almost 7,000 rounds of high powered ammunition into Mexico last year.

During a secondary inspection of Rene Huerta Jr.'s vehicle Custom agents found the ammo inside the vehicles's dashboard. Officials say this type of ammunition is used in high powered rifles like AK-47's, weapons of choice for Mexican drug cartels.
