Man Pleads Guilty to Capital Murder

HARLINGEN — A man, accused of capital murder and sexual assault, pleaded guilty on Wednesday morning on both counts. 35 year-old Miguel Trejo admitted to murdering an 82 year-old woman in Harlingen this past July during a home invasion. The woman, identified as Flavia Araiza, was found beaten and strangled in her home on West Buchanan. Harlingen P.D. Sgt. John Parrish stated, "There were signs of a struggle, a diamond ring was reported missing. The preliminary autopsy results indicated probable strangulation and blunt force trauma." Trejo pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 62 year-old Harlingen woman in January of last year and he is expected to be sentenced next Monday.
