Twenty-one year old Pedro Alberto Ibanez stood before a Brownsville judge charged with murder and aggravated assault on Wednesday afternoon.
The charges against Ibanez stem from shootings that occurred on August 22nd on the east side of town.
When asked by presiding Judge Ben Neece if he had any questions, Ibanez replied his actions were in self defense. The judge told him that was something he'd have to discuss with his hired attorney.
Police say that Ibanez allegedly fired the shots from inside a pick-up truck after an argument went down between him and the two victims.
"There was a lot of information from numerous people that were interviewed and eventually it lead to Pedro Ibanez whom eventually gave a voluntary statement." said Brownsville Police Department's PIO, Eddie Garcia.
Last month, residents on the east side of Brownsville reported hearing shots fired. as police were checking through several neighborhoods they found the body of Luis Alejandro Alvarado in his pick-up truck located off of north Bernal, authorities say he received several gunshot wounds.
Just blocks away, at the intersection of Acapulco and Veracruz, police found a second victim, Gabriel Angel Garcia, clinging to life after being shot several times as well. Garcia was transported to a hospital in San Antonio. As of today he continues to recover at an undisclosed location.
Police believe they've got their trigger man and no other arrests are expected to be made at this time. Meanwhile, investigators are still trying to pin point why exactly the deadly shots were fired in the first place
