HIDALGO COUNTY- The ballistic results are in and the Sheriff's Office now has enough evidence to charge a man who they say is responsible for shooting two middle school students in Edinburg.

Sheriff lupe trevino called Dustin Wesley Cook a competitive shooter but he also called him reckless one. Cook was charged with aggravated assault Friday afternoon. Officials say he shot his rifle towards Harwell Middle school while target shooting. Cook admitted he knew the school was in the distance.

Cook kept a log for every single one of his shots. At around 4:38 that afternoon it says he fired at least 5 times. Two of those bullets ended up almost killling two young boys. Officials were able to link the bullet lodged inside one of the victims to Cook's rifle. The bullet from the gun is capable of traveling up to three miles away. Even though authorities believe the shooting was not intentional Cook is still being held on a $100,000 bond. Until evidence can prove otherwise he faces up to 20 years in prison.
