OLMITO, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Warnings about a new Craigslist scam has surfaced in the valley.
Richard Ramirez says he put a home security panel on Craiglist for the amount of $200.
He received a text from a potential buyer, who then sent a check for the amount of $2,000 claiming that it was just a mistake and asked Ramirez to send the remaining money back along with the part.
Richard Ramirez, "We looked for the number on that check and they said 'no we didn't issue this check, it's a fraudulent check. We didn't issue that check'. So don't deposit it because then your bank is going to charge you the $2,000."
Ramirez says that when he called the company who issued the check, they said that he is about the 14th person in two weeks to ask about checks like this.
