Man arrested for theft of jeans gets handed a $10,000 bond

A Harlingen man is arrested by police for attempting to steal a pair of pants and then gets handed a $10,000 bond for having active arrest warrants.

On Tuesday, May 20th police were called to the Sears store located at 2002 South Expressway 83 in reference to a theft call.

Police made contact with the loss prevention officer who stated that Jose Nicolas Perez had been detained after he was seen selecting a pair of Levis jeans, valued at $68, and concealing the pair inside the waistband of his pants and walking out of the store without paying for the merchandise.

Perez was transported to the city jail where it was discovered that he was wanted for five Municipal Court warrants totaling over $2,000 and also having two prior theft convictions enhancing the current theft charge to a state felony.

Perez was charged with theft with two or more previous convictions and given a $10,000 bond.
