Luminaries made to honor breast cancer victims
The Creative Writers Group from the Winter Haven Community are also recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On Wednesday members of the group were filling 120 luminaries in preparation for a dinner on Wednesday evening.
Names on the bags represent those who have lost their battle to cancer or those who are still fighting. An $800 donation will be presented to the American Cancer Society.
The organizer of the event, Fern Kubalsky, a breast cancer survivor herself, stresses the importance of knowing your body, "In 81' I had my mammogram, I had my doctors visit in April and in July I found a lump, by October the lump was the size of a golf ball. So you need to be aware of your body at all times, not only at the doctors visit and everything, but you need to know your body and by doing that I'm alive here today, 32 years later."
The group will also donate the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.
