Low Intensity Workout

Obesity is a major problem in the Valley. Statistics show the Valley is well above national numbers.
This is David Garcia. He is a graduate student at UTB.
As part of his master's thesis he is studying the effects of a low intensity workout in obese people. This workout may help more obese to get into shape.
"Under normal training conditions you would work out 30-40 minutes where under a blood flow restriction in 20 minutes you can burn about the same amount of calories."
How it works is Garcia straps on what's called cuff's to the person's thighs.
Garcia inflates the cuffs sending blood to the thighs, and the workout begins.
"The restriction cuffs, you workout at a low intensity and burn more calories making for cardio respiratory system workout at a higher intensity, so you work out at low intensity workout but your cardio respiratory system undergoes and feels as if it's working at a higher intensity and burns more calories through this type of training."
Through the study Garcia tested 30 obese people ages 18-40 on a stationary bike using this low intensity workout method.
"All my participates enjoyed the process they are waiting for me to do a long term study and use this technic so they can see the benefits during a longer period of time."
