Louisiana: Cocaine bust in the airport

Louisiana police make a million dollar cocaine bust at Baton Rouge Metro Airport.

Three men were arrested and a large stash of cocaine was recovered. Andrew Nomura has the story.

What was meant to be a fuel stop turned into a drug bust after numerous agencies including bprd, immigration and custom and state police arrested these 3 men. Vicenzo Salzano, Mohammad Nekooie, and Armando Salzano.

"U.S.. Customs ICE agents contacted Louisiana State Police narcotics agents and they gave them information that they were tracking a suspicious aircraft.", Lt. J.B.. Slaton Baton Rouge Police

Lieutenant JB Slaton says law enforcement found a total of 72lbs of cocaine in this airplane late last night. He says the plane was flying back to Atlanta from Texas, but made a pit stop in Baton Rouge. Slaton says BRPD also helped with the search.

"We called in our partners in Baton Rouge PD and they brought in their canine to make sure there wasn't any other narcotics any other false compartments or anything else.", Lt. J.B. Slaton

Police say the K-9 sniffed out 17 of the 72lbs of cocaine from a back compartment. Slaton says the owner of the plane Vincezo Salana gave officers consent to search the plane.

He says this bust is one of the big ones.

"This is a very sizable seizure, it's roughly one million dollars street value worth of cocaine.", Lt. J.B. Slaton
