A new school year is right around the corner for many in the Rio Grande Valley.

Los Fresnos CISD hosted its annual convocation for its teaching staff.

Celebrating district-wide victories is what superintendent Gonzalo Salazar believes is necessary to kick off a new year.

“It’s the one time of the year that we come together and look back at the accomplishments of our students and then begin to set goals for their coming school year. Tell you what, it certainly sets a positive tone for the start of the school year.”

Teachers, like Clarissa Farrar from Los Fresnos High School, agree.

"Lot of good things to be proud of and a lot of good things happening at the high school, and everyone is doing a good job working together.”

Forr first grade teacher Carmen Loredo, this also set some pretty high standards.

"We are in the very top of the state. Ready for the kids because we got to stay up there so we got to work twice as hard.”

It wasn’t all pep talk. The celebration brought on student performances, such as the Los Fresnos High School Stars drill team among others.

At the end of the day, the district accomplished its purpose. Teacher Ines Macias felt motivated.

“I’m ready to go! A whole new grade level, and i’m excited and especially seeing everything that we’ve seen this morning, you feel pumped to go back.”

And just like Los Fresnos CISD, districts all around the Rio Grande Valley are getting ready and motivated for that first day of classes, coming up on Monday.
