The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District has received a top ranking in post-secondary readiness from the state of Texas.

As of last year, the Texas Education Agency began ranking school districts across the state to see how well students across the state to see how well students were prepared for college.

The state judges the districts by students' grades, standardized testing, and state assessment tests.

The superintendent of Los Fresnos CISD attributes the district's success to teachers pushing students to learn in real-world environments.

"It has everything to do with teachers in our district understanding what's at stake and implementing the curriculum with fidelity," said LFCISD superintendent Gonzalo Salazar. "It takes a lot of the staff working behind the scenes to make sure we're doing a lot of the leg work and all of the compliance issues are in place, so we can focus on those things that matter most, and in this case it's the performance of our students that matters most."

26 school districts were chosen out of more than 1000 for the post secondary readiness award. Three other districts from the Valley were also included as top schools.
