Burglaries are on the rise in Brownsville, is your home or car a target?
Thieves will target places like clubs and family establishments, where they know you will be out of your car for a long period of time.
Public places are not the only targets, Officer Cervantes who patrols neighborhoods from Brownsville to Los Fresnos sees homes and cars parked in driveways and on neighborhood streets broken into all the time.
We ride through Lake Way Drive off Alton Gloor, a middle to upper class neighborhood known have cars and homes broken into because of limited lighting.
We travel to another neighborhood off rain tree road in Brownsville near McAllen road where rarely Cervantes says he sees homes hit.
"one of the reasons I don't think he have a lot of break-ins this area is because you can see a lot these homes either leave lights on in the front, one, two, three, homes, some of these people keep an eye out for each others property."
Cervantes says it's not a guarantee your home will not get burglarized or vehicle broken into but can definitely help.
"make sure you store them in the trunk don't leave them in the open. hopefully you live an area with sufficient lighting in the streets if not leave a porch light on or have a timer on the flood light motion."
