With gasoline prices through the roof, wouldn't it be nice to get free gas? That’s the deal one company rolled out today.
Drivers lined up as early as 10:30 this morning to be the lucky drivers to get free gas. The gas cards were handed out to the first 100 drivers at the noon hour on Boca Chica Boulevard.
“I got here like at 10:35.”
“I was driving by and I saw everyone. Let me stop and ask. We’re giving away free gas let me get in line.”
And waiting did not seem to be a problem, as long as they got that $30 gas card.
“It’s worth it, it's worth it yea.”
“That is fabulous because no one's going to give you that.”
Cricket Communications is launching in the Rio Grande Valley. An unlimited wireless service provider that promises simple and affordable mobile phone services to Valley residents.
“We’re here to let the community know we're here to support everybody we want to be part of the business community and we're offering free gas. $30 of free gas to the 100 drivers.”
To get Cricket Communications in the map, they came up with the gas giveaway concept. District Director for Cricket in the Valley, Frank Vos, says the concept is perfect to draw people in.
“Gas is becoming very expensive so this is our way of saying thank you to RGV and hopefully this company can be recognized as a company that really cares about the local community and be part of it.”
And Mary Garcia knows about the effects of the rising gas prices.
“Drive less, drive less and if you need to go somewhere, you go, if not stay home.”
By 12:30 all the cards were gone, and many cars were left out of the gas giveaway.
