The Texas Board of Education is looking to update the English Language Arts and Reading curriculum, and one member of the Texas Board of Education is not happy with how the matter is being researched.
Students and facility at UTB got the lowdown on the issue board member Mary Helen Berlanga.
The Texas Board of Education chairman formed a four person sub-committee to pick five researchers to decide what should go in the curriculum for K-12 graders.
Of those chosen no one on the committee has expertise with Latinos. Berlanga says research needs to be done with Latinos
University of Texas at Brownsville students like Erica Garcia who heard Berlanga speak agrees research needs to be done with Latinos.
On March 26th the Texas Board of Education will hold a public hearing about the updated curriculum.
In May the board will decide weather to go with the updated curriculum.
