George Vidal won the Exploravision Award last year and now the 11 year-old McAllen student is now a regional winner along with his new team mate, who developed a device that prevents obesity.
George and his team beat out other kids in their age group from 16 other states to take the first place regional honor. George and team mates, Lindsay Oshellilebi, Emilio Mendiola and Douglas DeLeon are now developing a website promoting their device as the final part of the competition. Their invention called the, "Taste Bud Modifier System" does just that! How it works is, you spray it on your tongue and it changes the way you taste.
Even if this Valley team becomes the Exploravision National winner, it will take about 20 years before their TBMS can be built, because the technology to economically develop the device does not exist today and that is the goal of the competition challenging students to envision technology of the future.
These Valley students find out on May 1st, if their invention takes first place beating 5 other regional winners in the United States and Canada.
