Traci Rhode, convicted of murder, learned her fate yesterday from jurors deciding her fate.
Prosecutors wanted the 37 year-old mother of three to spend the rest of her life behind bars, while defense attorneys fought for probation and that's exactly what jurors granted her.
Traci Rhode says she is thankful to the jury and God for setting her free. Traci's family and friends had been praying for probation over the punishment period and had their prayers answered.
Prosecutors say they respect the jurors decision, but are disappointed. After convicting her of murdering her husband Scott, they gave her no jail time. Only 10 years probation, with a $10,000 dollar fine.
Family and friends of Rhode say they have reason to now smile. Rhode's mother, Vicki Lair says she'll stand by her daughter, till the end. Traci says, this probation is one bright spot, after years of dark days. Still she says, the pain of losing her husband won't go away.
The State won't and can't appeal the juror's decision, but say they think jurors found a soft spot in their hearts because of Traci's sons. Rhode's defense attorneys will be appealing the guilty verdict. She is appealing the guilty verdict, not the punishment phase. Traci says she doesn't want this hanging over her for the rest of her life.
