SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas - The City of South Padre Island’s 2018 Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin this month, according to a press release.
The project consists of reconstructing five side streets on the east side of Padre Boulevard.
Improvements will include five-foot sidewalks, improved drainage and more than 200 additional public parking spaces.
The project should take about seven and a half months to complete and will cost approximately $1.4 million.
“Sidewalks provide many benefits including safety and mobility,” said Carlos A. Sanchez, public works director. “We would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and understanding during this project.”
The seven streets are listed below:

• East Venus Lane
• East Atol Street
• East Lantana Street
• East Jupiter Lane
