EDINBURG, Texas - A former IDEA bus driver has been charged with multiple counts of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Multiple students, including a 5 year old female victim, and two 8-year-old female victims, were interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Edinburg where outcries were made alleging that their former bus driver, 52-year-old Jose Luis Garza, had inappropriately touched them on multiple occasions while riding the school bus.
Sheriff’s Investigators reviewed the evidence which demonstrated sufficient probable cause to show that Jose Garza had committed the offense of continuous sexual abuse of a young child.
On May 11, Jose Luis Garza was arrested and taken before a Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace. He was formally arraigned for the offenses and committed to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center. Garza was charged with three counts of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child, a 1st degree felony, and given three cash surety bonds totaling $320,000 before being committed to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
Sheriff's investigators say additional charges may follow during this investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office at 956-383-8114.
