Local Physician Charged With Fraud Has Bail Denied

MCALLEN, Texas - A Rio Grande valley doctor facing multiple fraud charges remains under federal custody.

Dr. Jorge Zamora-Quezada was denied bail by Judge Peter Ormsby. An order for detention was ruled in the defendant's case due to significant evidence. Judge Ormsby believes Zamora had the resources for an easy way of escaping to Mexico.

One of his colleagues and his wife tell us they trust Zamora's work and that he'll be able to prove his innocence.

Dr. Madeline Medina, colleague says, "I can honestly say that I've known Dr. Zamora to always be a very excellent rheumatologist. He was always honest, and all the patients we have had in common have always been satisfied with his care."

“I trust in the justice system. My husband is innocent." Said his wife.

Dr. Zamora-Quezada faces five counts of health care fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, and another count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
