Congressman Gonzalez Meets Japanese Delegation

WASHINGTON - Recently, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez was one of only seven members of Congress invited to Japan. Other members included Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) and Congressmen Billy Long (MO-07), J. Luis Correa (CA-46), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Bill Flores (TX-17), and Andy Harris (MD-01).

The group met with Japanese Prime Minister, H.E. Shinzo Abe, and Japanese First Lady, Akie Abe. The delegation also had a meeting with Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taro Kono, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Bill Hagerty, and other key government officials. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the U.S. and Japan.
“Maintaining positive relationships with our allies requires a combination of diplomacy, collective defense, and fair trade,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “This visit to Japan will not only give us a platform to discuss the issues that matter most to South Texans, but it will enable us to continue the important work that makes our nation, and our world, a more secure and prosperous place. I am hopeful that these discussions will bring investments and higher paying jobs to South Texas and ultimately establish a lasting relationship with one of our key foreign allies.”
