Local Drought Expected to Continue During Summer Season
RIO GRANDE VALLEY — The Valley's drought is expected to only get worse with summer approaching and spring storms brought plenty of rain, but not enough to help local crops. Meteorologist Barry Goldsmith says farmers may be in trouble, "Well the drought will maintain itself if we get very little rain in terms of moisture into the ground at all, then the drought will worsen. We have seen in the summer that we saw the drought go into extreme to exceptional which is the worse case we could have." Goldsmith says recent spring showers provided only temporary relief from the drought.
