Loaves and Fishes Shelter Open to the Public
With temperatures not surpassing the 50's, one local shelter opened its doors all day for those who wanted to stay someplace warm, Michelle Macias has the story.
Those who seek temporary shelter at the Loaves and Fishes center usually need to be off premises by 8 AM, but with temperatures so chilly, the Executive Director decided to keep the doors open all day. Maria has been staying at the shelter since Saturday when she broke her arm in three different places and she's thankful for the shelter's help and support.
Not only will the shelter provide meals and a warm bed to sleep in, someone will actually try to help them find a job and a permanent home. John Roth moved from Maryland five months ago and was living in a shack for two months before he made his way up to the shelter five days ago.
In 2010, the shelter fed more than 130,000 people and has provided nearly a 1,000 men. women and children with a bed to sleep on. Loaves and Fishes will see how cold it will be the next couple of days and make a decision to stay open all day.
