The beach is packed with people including young children enjoying fun in the sun and the water.

"We live in Illinois so we don't have anything like beaches so this has just been spectacular."

These folks who are at Isla Blanca and Andy Bowie Park can also enjoy it knowing lifeguards are on duty.

"3 lifeguard stands with 1 guard and a fire fighter in the vehicle patrolling the beach continuously patrolling Isla Banca Park and we have 2 up at Andy Bowie and have some that patrol within the city limits."

The county recently teamed up with the Town of South Padre Island Fire Department to have the lifeguards at both parks.

"With lifeguards on duty admission prices have gone up from $4 to $5, people we talked say they don't mind paying the extra dollar because it’s all about the safety of the kids."

"It’s well worth it I would pay more, my kids are safe I would pay more."

Patricia Smith has two children and a one year old nephew

"I am registered nurse and I think the safety is paramount to me."

The county will have lifeguards on duty seven days a week from now until September 3rd. This summer it's costing the county around $107,000 fund the life guards.
After September 3rd through February the two parks will not have life guards.
Next March the life guards will return to duty.
They will work through September 4th, and that will cost the county around $245,000.
