Legislation proposed for consideration of medical marijuana law

A new medical marijuana proposal, in Austin, means lawmakers will again debate marijuana law reform as the proposed legislation would allow Texans, arrested for possession, to give law enforcement evidence that their doctor prescribed for the use of the drug. Currently, possession of up to 2 ounces of marijuana is a misdemeanor, which carries penalties of up to 180 days in jail and up to $2,000 dollar fine, or both. The proposed reform would lower that fine to $500 dollars and no jail time.
