Legislation being pushed to repeal Texas Blue laws
AUSTIN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A push from nearly 20,000 Facebook fans are wanting to modernize the State of Texas and promote business equality by ending Texas Blue laws.
Texas Blue laws make it illegal for package stores to sell alcohol on Sundays and state House Bill 421 and Senate Bill 236 would make it legal for the state to expand the hours from 66 to 88 a week.
Proponents of the bills say expanding store hours would allow small business owners to hire more employees, which would generate more revenue in local taxes.
It's important to note the Texas Blue law only effects package stores, bars can serve alcohol after a certain time on Sundays, that's one of the reasons why proponents believe the laws should be repealed because the law is unfair.
