Border Patrol agents at the McAllen station seized 800 pounds of marijuana on Wednesday.

They spotted a van speeding and agents began to follow it, but the driver made a u-turn and headed south towards the Rio Grande river. The driver abandoned the van and left behind 800 pounds of marijuana behind with an estimated street value $640,000 dollars. The driver was not caught and agents believe he fled into Mexico.

Rio Grande City agents have more than a ton of marijuana off the streets with busts happening in just the past couple of days. A speeding driver attracted attention to this bust when agents followed it and again the driver ran from the car leaving 51 bundles of marijuana on Monday. On Tuesday, near the Rio Grande City, agents spotted men carrying bundles and that group ran away leaving behind 3 bundles of marijuana. On the same day, agents near Roma saw seven people carrying seven large bundles weighing 468 pounds and those individuals got away.

In total, agents collected 2,065 pounds of marijuana worth about $1.6 million dollars.
