Law enforcement agencies launch community partnership
SULLIVAN CITY, TEXAS (NEWS CENTER 23) — Customs and Border Protection’s Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector is once again teaming up with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and the Sullivan City Police Department to launch a community partnership storefront. Media representatives are invited to attend the grand opening at 10 a.m., Friday, February 15th.
“By working closely with residents and the business community, we can identify and work together to prevent and deter criminal activity and also promote a safe and secure environment to preserve the quality of life for all,” said Chief Patrol Agent Rosendo Hinojosa. “The storefront program is designed to show the residents that we are more than just a blue, green or tan uniform with a badge, we are real people, who care about the well-being of area residents.”
The goal of the program is to provide community members direct and immediate access to law enforcement personnel and improve security along the border. Additionally, a consistent officer presence provides a deterrent for criminal organizations who contemplate passing through the community while smuggling their commodities.
Law enforcement officers and agents will host regular town-hall type meetings and other social events to inform the residents of the efforts and progress made within Sullivan City. This partnership aims to bring greater security to the local area through a more proactive approach involving the public and multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector has similar partnerships in the border communities of Madero, La Joya, Roma, and San Isidro.
