A man is behind bars and accused of transporting illegal immigrants.
25 year-old Jesus Castaneda faced a judge on Thursday morning for evading arrest charges. La Joya police tried pulling him over for a traffic violation Wednesday morning and instead of stopping, police say he took off sparking a chase.
Officials say Castaneda reached speeds of more than 100 mph during the half hour pursuit. When police caught him they found seven illegal immigrants hiding inside his truck. Border Patrol agents took the group into custody and Castaneda sits in the Hidalgo county jail on a $50,000 dollar bond. He will likely face federal charges for human smuggling in the future.
