In La Joya, police officers are being kept busy in the last five days having to chase down six cars they believe were stuffed with illegal immigrants.

The most recent happened Wednesday night when police received a call about a suspicious truck overloaded with people in a neighborhood. Officers tried to stop the truck, but the driver, 33 year-old Jose Antonio Vega, sped away. Vega drove erratically through the city and even crashed but then took off again. According to police, Vega finally stopped and more than a dozen people jumped out of the truck. Vega also ran but officers caught him a short time later and Border Patrol also took a woman and two men into custody.

Police charged Vega with evading arrest and Border Patrol will be filing federal charges against him as well. He will also face deportation since it was discovered he was living in the country illegally.
