In the City of La Feria officials plan to annex about 375 acres of land to the city limits, affecting farm land owners.
Some of them went to a public hearing tonight to get details.
City leaders held their first of two public hearings on their plans for annexation of mostly farmland----south of town along FM-506.
At this hearing, residents were given the opportunity to speak out.
They mostly asked questions about, where exactly the city plans to expand.
The city is seeking land from the Minnesota-Texas Land and Irrigation Company subdivision, La Feria Grant, and the Longoria Subdivision.
City Manager, Sunny Philip says all property owners were notified by letter.
The City is working on deals with them, for their land.
"It's not grabbing land, for tax purposes only, we want to maintain that the area around la feria is growing in an orderly fashion for the benefit of the entire community," Philip says.
He says they will allow the owners of this farm land to continue farming without having to pay taxes on the property, which they annex.
They want to make the process, as easy as they can for the property owners.
The next public hearing is set for next tuesday, before it's put up for a vote.
