Stranger donates kidney to a little boy who needed a miracle to survive.
A father reading the newspaper about a little boy who needed a miracle decided he could be the one to make it happen.
Chris donated one of his kidneys to help Nathan overcome a rare birth defect called prune belly syndrome, a condition that was causing Nathan’s own kidneys to fail.
Nathan’s mother, Tina, says “He is very heroic, have him save my son”
Kidney donor Chris Doing says “the smile on his face is more than I can ask for.”
The Saavedras met Chris through a series of articles in a newspaper. Finding a donor, they say, is something they really never thought would happen.
Chris says “as a father myself, the thought of being so helpless, to help out just really pulled at my heart strings.”
Neither Tina’s husband nor any of their family members were a match for Nathan, but Chris was. The operations took place three weeks ago.
Tina says “about an hour or two after his surgery they did a blood test and all of his levels were already perfect. I was so happy to finally not have to worry about how he was doing.”
Chris says “it’s a small price to pay for a guy like that.”
Nathan still faces surgeries to repair his abdomen, but with the new kidney, his future prospects are good.
Tina says “I wish there were more people like Chris because with having looked up things on kidney diease and prune-belly, there’s a lot of children out there who do need kidney donors and are fighting to find people to save their child.”
Prune-belly Syndrome is extremely rare, affecting one in 40,000 newborns.
