MCALLEN - "Ok this is your bag, you put all the recyclables in there," said Gaby Reyna, Keep McAllen Beautiful.

Bright and early, more than 80 students with UTPA came out to fireman's part to help with a growing problem.

"I am looking for trash," said Isamara Salinas, Volunteer. "And I am looking for recyclable things," said Yaretzy Lopez, Volunteer.

Gloves on, bags open, students picked up trash, trash and more trash.

"Cigarette butts are the number one littered item. But the most visible item are plastic bags because they are so light, and they are so easy to be caught by the wind and carried off," said Reyna.

News Center 23 Reporter Erin Murray has the story.
