Get ready to salute; the U.S. observes Flag Day today.

The first Flag Day was observed in  Hartford, Connecticut on June 14th, 1861.

Then in 1877, Congress ordered the flag be flown on public buildings on that date.

Later, in 1916, President Wooddrow Wilson issued a proclamaition asking the U.S. to observe Flag Day.

Finally, in 1949 Congress, in a joint resolution, agreed to an offical Flag Day and President Harry Truman approved.
